About

CyberXchange Conference is designed to shine a spotlight on new and emerging technologies that are transforming the ways that we do business in West Africa.

Sothes, organizers of CyberXchange 2016 Conference, are organizing the largest cybersecurity hackathon competition to ever hit Africa. The hackathon is being  hosted in partnership with Facebook who have set foot in Africa and are making even larger strides towards the global epidemic of cybersecurity.

The goal of the Hackathon during this conference is to bring the brightest university students and young professionals to come with amazing ideas and creativity.

Facebook Hackathons are a longstanding tradition at Facebook where our engineers work over many hours to create a working product or prototype from scratch. The cybersecurity hackathon at CyberXchange 2016 will uphold the same rigors.

Join Facebook at the CyberXchange 2016 Conference in Nigeria on November 2-3, as we spend two days hacking, learning and having some fun!

Start brainstorming ideas & forming teams* (of up to 5 people).

We'll supply the food, fun diversions, prizes, and some expert guidance from of our engineers.

All you need is to bring your laptop, appetite, skills and ideas.

*You should be an enrolled university student in Nigeria to attend this event OR a young professional with less than two years of experience.*

Helpful Tips & FAQs

How do I register for the Hackathon?

Click the registration button at the top of the page. Please fill out the form with all of your information. Once you fill out the form, you will need to prequalify for the hackathon. You will receive an email with a link to a prequalifying challenge. You will need to complete that challenge in order to be invited onsite.

I Registered! Does This Guarantee Me A Spot In The Hack?

No. Registration closes on August 30 at 9am GMT.

NO EXCEPTIONS.

Due to limited space, we will send all those who have registered a coding challenge to qualify for the hack. From this, we will determine who will be invited to the onsite competition. Notifications will be sent out by the end of September 24.

What Type Of Things Should We Build?

The world is your oyster- think of a security issue that annoyed you today. Harness that and build your next hack. Disrupting the current industry is highly encouraged, these are the best ideas!

Does Our Project Have To Relate To Facebook?

Not at all. But our engineers are best equipped to answer any FB related questions.

What Language Or Platform Can I Use?

The choice is yours! As long as you are confident that you can come up with a working prototype by the end of the hackathon, you should be fine.

Who Owns The Code After We're Done?

You do! Facebook does not own any of your code. Feel free to open source your code, expand on it, etc. This is a great opportunity to make use of advice from industry experts!

Do I Have To Be On A Team? What If I Don’t Have One?

No, but working in teams will typically allow you to get more done in the limited amount of time you'll have. If you don't have a team on the day of, we can help you find or create one.

If you are a part of a team, all members of your team MUST register individually for the opportunity to attend*
